Pikes Peak BMX is excited to host the 2009 State Games of America July 30th through August 2nd. The Opening Ceremonies on Thursday July 30th at the Colorado Springs World Arena will be special for BMX as the Colorado
2008 State Games Female Athlete of the Year from BMX, Caitlyn Kelty will be one of the torch carriers for the lighting. BMX is a three day event, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday awarding medalists each day. On Sunday the top finishers in each class for the three day series will receive further recognition plus Team awards & ABA Double Points!

Also signing up to compete is the 2008 State Games of the West Female Athlete of the Year, BMX racer Caitlyn Kelty (11), of Colorado Springs. She won three Gold medals and three Bronze medals in the sport at the event last summer, and which makes its debut on the State Games of America menu this summer. She won the Colorado state championship in 2008 and took third in the 2009 U.S. National Championships, which qualified her for the World BMX Championships in Australia.
Her honor as the 2008 State Games of the West Female Athlete of the year means she will bring the Games’ torch into the Colorado Springs World Arena on the evening of July 30 with Male Athlete of the Year Ryan Arata of Colorado Springs (swimming) to begin the final leg of the torch relay that begins at the U.S. Olympic Training Center that afternoon.
The Games’ official opening will take place with the lighting of the flame by 2008 Olympic freestyle wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo at the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony at the World Arena.
